Deaf21 is created by a victim of oralism. The hurdles that were tackled were numerous and these include an intensive oralist learning programme as part of a little known experiment – whose effects were unmitigated and some others participating in the experiments pulled out but others persevered in the hope it would succeed. The programme no doubt changed his ability to socialise or understand others – or for others to even understand him- and this led to substantial bullying by others who were also Deaf as well as those who are hearing. His school experience were horrific to say the least and it is recognised his school experiences have contributed to the trauma that is now recognised by his social workers and counsellors – besides the abject bullying and lying by hearing people these past two decades and the use of the police as a tool for hearing people’s abject hatred and discrimination against the Deaf.
In fact the police were challenged quite a number of times by a leading disability organisation in view of the hearing bias its officers were exercising – something that has long been common – even when Deaf people expect proper justice and not some biased system that favours hearing people as the sole truth tellers simply because there is a communication difference. In fact its known this bias still exists and it has affected all kinds of Deaf people – even Deaf children who have been sexually abused – and police have favoured the abusers rather than the victims because in the eyes of the law one with BSL is seen as a most unreliable witness. A fairly recent full page feature in the Guardian highlighted this sheer bias.
Besides the article on the 1950s oralism experiments, it is hoped the blog will feature other stuff related to oralism including its promoters Alexander Graham Bell and others. Something about the police and their means of Deaf oppression (whether deliberate or inadvertent) and how the IPCC/IOPC and others have viewed this, plus review of the 1880 That exhibition and other stuff are planned.
Deaf21 refers to the 21st Century. The site was first published on 21st June 2025 (the longest day) so that’s another way of looking at it! In every sense however the ’21’ refers to the Deaf and the 21st Century. Other more traditional domain names had been considered but Deaf21 was chosen because ultimately its very easy to remember.
The author of this blog has interests in history, linguistics, philosophy, physics, research, sociology and has a BA in Social Science.
Matters such as inequality, oppression, coercion, brainwashing, violence, misogynism, power, dominance, hierarchy, militarism and speciesism are of great concern to the author and a substantial amount of research as been done on various aspects pertaining to these and other linked subjects.
I’m simply not interested in competition, coercion, kontrol, or being better than others, or being important or leading or whatever – none of the nefarious shit others like to pursue. Thus some of the concepts being illustrated are quite difficult to propound or explain and its a very steep learning curve doing this kind of blog. Its not being publicised or made visible on search engines at the moment and its only a few people that view it.
Its largely a work that is constantly changing as the articles alter upon reading, review and then clarifying things or adding new points to better illustrate various concepts. It is quite hard to collate material and to find new ways of dealing with the problems that we know as audism and oralism (as well as a few other terms that have been used in the past such as hearachy).
Nor am I interested, like so many men are, in fooling others into thinking I am a leader of some sort. I have no wish to lead, to direct others or be the bearer of a certain banner. Its not my thing. It might be something humanity loves but its not for me. Any kind of hierarchy or dominance is simply not for me. Neither are jealousy or envy or creating rumours or other unpalatable stuff. Nor am I entertaining or anything of the sort and am not interested in that either. I am simply boring. I have autism if that helps others to understand a tiny bit about where I am coming from.
By the way, hopefully some will give me feedback on any issues or errors or misconstrued parameters I may possibly have made. It is hard to proof-read one’s own stuff – and there’s absolutely no-one else doing it for me. Therefore no aggressive or attacking stuff please. I might sound confident in my blog but I am terribly low in confidence and am also very wary of others and even Deaf people. I barely associate with anyone and the slightest blip will prompt me to delete any untoward messages. I have just endured years and years of abuse – that’s almost 27 years continuously spent in sufferance.
