UK college promotes AI sign language
A college has decided to use AI generated BSL to promote the language. The only problem is… its all wrong!
If anyone was to try and use some of these signs featured on these posters they would certainly be very disappointed they had learnt fake signs. Imagine their disappointment at having to learn BSL all over again – correctly!
The problems these posters have include incorrect and duplicated hand configurations. The typography and layouts are characteristic of AI-generated educational posters.
The detail these posters illustrate is all wrong and that includes AI generated M and N hand shapes which are virtually identical, That defeats the purpose of having distinguishable letters.
The various illustrations clearly combine elements of different sign languages, such as BSL, ASL etc, along with what can only be invented hand configurations. What is your name and Good morning are total fabrications which have no bearing on what is actually used in BSL.
The accompanying phrases contain inaccuracies. The quote on the posters says: ‘Communication creates connection.’ ‘Let’s make communication more inclusive together.’ ‘Small gestures make a big difference.’ It looks lilke they’re trying to destroy BSL rather!
The college in question is at Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.
