Why?
This is the huge problem with any speech based system humanity operates. Its why many thought the Deaf were idiot savants. Its why oralism flourishes. Its why many hearing desire even to this day the assimilation (indeed the elimination of the Deaf) through medicine and paternalism.

Speech is no doubt the litmus test for intelligence. Those without speech, they’re not intelligent are they? Well that is what has been thought for centuries. Its only those with speech who would be able to deduct such a distorted evaluation! In a sense what is done to those without an ‘approved’ communication means definitely highlights the backwardness that verbal society lives in. Speech society has some of the shittiest, unequal, systems in the world.
Its no doubt a cruel deception especially when ‘animal rights’ are considered. There are no real animal rights. Not even a democracy. One might wonder why we even need a democracy for animals. Well if anyone wonders why that is, they haven’t thought things through have they? Speech hasn’t exactly evolved a democracy either has it? But it likes to pretend otherwise. What we do to the animals no doubt reflects the overall dictum in which humanity operationalises. Essentially humanity is not a very clever species but it has power, control, and coercion. And so it portrays itself as a clever species – one which happens to be the saviour of the natural world. What a big effing joke!
Just as the situation with the animal kingdom isn’t even improving in any great sense, it should too be quite evident that the situation with the Deaf is similarly disposed. As Harlan Lane has said – the hearing world operates a cruel deception. Time to reach for the sickbag…
